Challenge #57: Christmas with a Twist

Can you feel it? Christmas is almost around the corner (well sort of...), so this month we are challenging you to grab you Christmas supplies and create a project that is NOT christmassy in any way shape or form. Use the colours green, gold and red and see if you can get a project done that does not evoke the feeling of presents. Maybe you have oodled of Xmas embellies but not quite sure how to use them? Be creative - be totally unique and use them on a summer layout, no?

We want to see how "twisted" your imagination cam run riot when faced with Christmas in September!

I pulled different Christmas paper that I had in the colors of green, gold and red and then went to my embellishment drawer full of Christmas stuff and thought I would try and find some trees and stars to add to the page and then found this "wish" from 2002 in my stash ...found a place for it on the page to go with my title .Next, I pulled out my Disney pictures ....and this is how this page came about ....thanks for looking!!!

I absolutely love Christmas and love the fact that I'm using Christmas themed paper on a non-christmas layout!! I used a lot of red and green, because thankfully my photo has lots of this colour in it. I used Christmas patterned paper, bold red cardstock for journalling, a blingy star embellie and I tore apart a christmas wreath (removed the word Christmas and the red bow), then separated the leaves and added them as individual embellies behind the flower. I also used Christmas ribbon.

I pulled out my last year's Christmas stash for this layout. I love Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses paper and while there's plenty of green, the aqua and pink tones make it quite versatile. I brought out those pinks & burgundies by using a pink cardstock base for my page, and tinting my letter stickers with raisin alcohol ink. Using Christmas paper is fun because it's put away most of the year - it's like discovering a new stash just waiting to be enjoyed!

I was intrigued about using the festive colors on a non-holiday layout.It was a great challenge and so much fun.Sadely past that I just couldnt bring myself to add christmas-y decor to the layout,just a tad bit too much for me...haha,but i love the way the colors worked for this layout!

In these days my scrapbooking style is "shabby and simple", I use less 3D embellishments and I use a lot of masking tape and inks. For this layout I choose two Christmas patterned papers and a simple green one.

Challenge # 48: Halloween

With halloween over now is the time to pull out the halloween papers (old or new) and make a page or mini or project..whatever floats your fancy.

Since i don't have anymore paper left from halloween except for last months kit from Noel Mignon Kits that is what i went with.

Here is your twist though...you have to use fabric on whatever you choose to create. :) and if you don't have fabric...cut up a dishtowel if you may. This idea came from the kit (sold out) because noel included 2 pieces of halloween fabric in it.

I always struggle around Halloween a wee bit as a) we don't have children so wouldn't celebrate Halloween anyway and b) Halloween is not all THAT celebrated in the U.K. full stop.
So to create anything spooktacular proves quite a challenge for me. I had to look through my Past and present Halloween projects but I have nothing at all with fabric on, so you just have to accept the ribbons as being some sort of fabric (well, that is my excuse and I am sticking to it....)

Challenge #39: Love is in the air

It's that time of the year again ladies...Valentines Day!

I want to know is this a "holiday" that you celebrate?
For me it is not. i don't do this day and never have. I think it is silly.
Not everyone is like me and without further ado i want to see some traditional v-day colors..red and pink....no rules other than those...break out those colors and scrap whatever may be tickling your fancy or better yet make something for someone else..maybe your significant other, a child's teacher, or just some home decor..whatever it is be sure to link so we can ohhh and ahhhh

I don't really to V-Day either...not sure why, but hey that's how I roll :)
That doesn't stop me from loving to create with red and pink though - FAR from it. The below layout shows a picture of my MIL and myself. You always hear of woman not getting on with the MIL's but mine is ace. We are like best buddies and even go on holiday together!
The background is a package sheet from Prima by the way. In it came one of their transparencies and I thought it was too nice to throw. It has the same consistency and colour of Kraft cardstock.

i've had these letters laying around since the end of 2007. finally i've put them to use! it's a 12x16 canvas and the corrugated cardboard is left from a freight box from walmart. paper is making memories (fairly new). the mme and the sassafras are from last year and possibly the year before. ;) you can see close-ups of the project on my blog if you care to make one for yourself! (getting everything to stay on the canvas was the hardest part--LOTS of glue!)

Challenge #36: Give Thanks

In honor of the upcoming thanksgiving holidays...pull out last years fall papers, embellishments and ribbons and scrap it. It can be about what you are thankful for or just a silly ole topic using up the papers.

Thought I'd share some wreaths that i've made over the last few years. All the paper elements on them are scraps. The first one uses little bit and pieces that i've tried to use on other layouts, but ended up ditching them and collecting them in a baby food jar, like buttons, flowers, etc. The first wreath is also made from scratch with a $3 clearance grape vine wreath from Michael's and some clearance items from Walmart's seasonal aisle last year (they've been sitting in a rubbermaid bin awaiting my holiday spirit).


The second is made from the garland strands you can also find at Michael's. I tied the two ends together, made each little card, tied them off with eyelets and ribbon, added the letters to spell 'Thankful', the tied off with a bow to hand.

Sorry I'm late! I drew the spiderweb in pencil (after a brief instruction from my hubby), then used the sewing machine to sew over the lines. The spidey is made out of a scallop punch and then those googly eyes...well, they've been in my stash forever as well as the chipboard pieces and some Salem line scrap strips from Scenic Route!

Challenge #3: Holiday Paper

This weeks challenge for you "crap scrappers" is:

Holiday Paper on a NON holiday layout. We chose to use christmas paper since we both have so much of it and never seem to be able to use it all.

Feel free to use any "holiday" you would like...Halloween, Valentine's Day, 4th of July...whatever you've got laying around collecting dust, just make sure your Layout or card is not holiday themed!
