Meet the DT - Part I

Are you ready to learn a little bit more about our wonderful new DT ladies, who - come November 15th - will inspire you to use that stash?

We asked our Queens of Crap to tell us a little about themselves and hope you enjoy learning a little more about them as much as we did.

And when you have the time, don't forget to check out their blogs for some fabulous inspiration.

"I hail from Maryland. I am married to a wonderful husband of 12 years who happens to be the best flag football quarterback that I know (in my own opinion).I have been blessed with 2 of the most fantastic children (Kyle & Kassie). My family are the reason why I scrapbook. They provide me inspirations for many of my scrapbook pages. I am a diehard Redskins fan! You can always catch me behind a camera taking lots & lots of pictures. My scrapbooking style is just me doing what I love!"

"My name is Dana Tatar and I am a stay-at-home mom. I have two daughters, Claire (4) and Scarlett (3). I married my high school sweetheart in 2003 and have been happy ever since. I graduated from MSU with a B.S. in Biochemistry and worked in that field for about 3 years before I gave birth to my first daughter and decided to stay home full time. I have had many hobbies over the years, but scrapping is the one that really gives me satisfaction. 

I started scrapbooking to preserve memories after the birth of my first daughter. I love to mix products from different collections on my layouts and I frequently find inspiration in music, poetry and pop culture. I love fussy cutting and flowers and both can be seen on the majority of my layouts. I would say that my dominant scrappy styles are clean and simple and pretty chic, but I do like to mix things up a bit, depending on the paper or photos I want to use. When I'm not scrapping, I enjoy cooking and baking, reading, listening to music and spending time outdoors with my family and basset hound."

"My name is Jenifer Evans known on many scrapbooking sites as "Jennaroo"! I have 5 kiddos and am married to my high school swetheart! We live in a small farming community....and honestly there's not much to do besides scrap and chase my kids from one sporting event to the next! I have been seriously scrapping now for 2 years but started many years ago when my first child was born. I scrapbook to preserve memories for my children and theirs to come but I also scrap as a creative outlet for myself!

My friends and family make fun of me because I see things differently than they do, I get inspired by surroundings and often wonder how I can scrap them or incorporate them into my crafting somehow, whether it be something that would make a great title or something that could be altered or sqeezed onto a layout. I would say I have more than one style of scrapping because I don't want to limit my creativitey. My dominant style is shabby/pretty chic, but I've been known to produce grungy as well as clean and simple layouts once in a while. I pretty much go where the pictures and paper take me! "

"I am a wife and mother of 3 small children, ages 7, 3 and 19 months. I live in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. I have scrapbooked seriously for about 4 years now, but I have been interested in arts and crafts my entire life. My style is kind of eclectic and a bit cluttered. I’m not a big fan of using a lot of white space, as I’m sure that you can tell. If I see and empty space, I feel compelled to fill it! Fast! My favourite manufacturers are Crate Paper (my #1 fav), Echo Park, Glitz, GCD, Authentique, Little Yellow Bicycle, October Afternoon, Cosmo Cricket and Sassafras. I have a real love for retro and funky paper lines. 

My real job is freelance Web project management, design and development. In fact, I designed, developed and wrote all the content for my own Blog. I have my own small business – Vickers Media, and I work part-time as a Web Project Manager at a marketing company in Mississauga – Spyder Works Inc. My specialty is open source content management systems like Joomla and WordPress."

"I'm from Quebec in Canada.  I share my life with my boyfriend, my three cats and more scrappy supplies than I'll ever be able to use! I'm particularly addicted to paper, clear stamps and flowers (okay… and glimmer mists, and bling, and chipboard, and … you get the picture! lol!) I love to travel, and scrapbooking fits right into that passion for me. I scrap mostly my trips, and while I'm working on a layout, I'm immersed back into the place I'm scrapping. I forget everything else other than trying to find the perfect papers and embellies to match my photos! It's my escape!

DT Call - update

Our DT Call is now closed - thank you SO SO much or the many wonderful submissions. It's fantastic to see that you haven't forgotten us during our hiatus and that you are all so excited to see this challenge blog returning.

It will not be too long until we announce our new DT members and I can promise that we will email EVERYONE who applied for the DT position before we announce the team on the blog.

DT Call 2011

Scrap You Crap is returning!!!

(Can we get a YEEEEEEEEHAW, purlease??!???)

We have been taking a break since the beginning of the year but now we feel it is time to come back.

That is why we are looking for you, yes YOU over there.

Are you a hoarder? Do you surround yourself with pretty papers, chipboard, embellishments and continue to add to your stash rather than use it?

Well then you are the prefect crafter to become part of our Design Team.

Scrap You Crap is looking for six to eight team members and ideally we would love to have a good mixture of cardmakers and scrapbookers.

**What do we ask of our Designers?

Just one project per month – due on the 1^st as our challenges will go live on the 15^th.

Register for our DT forum, where we will be throwing ideas around for future challenges and communicate with each other. We do not ask for gazillions of posts, just a bi-monthly check in

Promote SYC wherever possible, for example on your personal blog, online communities.

Commit to a four month term with the possibility of extending this for another term.

Leave comments on all challenge entries.

**What do our Designers get in return?

The gratification of having used up all that stash which gathered dust. As the concept of the blog is to make use of the stash you already own, it would be kind of defeating the object to compensate with product, right? And also, this gives you the perfect excuse to go and buy more stash...seeing that you used the old one up for our challenges :)

Designers will have a permanent link to their blog (or homepage) on our site.

If you want to become part of this well-established (but naughtily neglected) challenge blog, send an email to: sycchallenges@gmail.com and don’t forget to put SYC DT Call in the subject line.

We would like you to submit three projects (layouts or cards) which you feel represent your style the best but they don’t have to be newly created. You can email us images of stuff you have already done before no need to recreate and keep it a secret.

Don’t forget to include a link to your personal blog (if you have one) as we are nosy like that and fancy checking you out...

Internationals are more than welcome and the deadline for this call is October 15^th 2011. If accepted, you term runs from November 2011 through to February 2012. No prior DT experience is required.

with much consideration and thought i have decided that for now i am taking a break from scrapping and SYC. I have been at this for 3 years now and i am tired.

I will not be taking this blog down because who knows i may start back not to mention there is killer inspiration in the archives.

Challenge #58: Mix & Match

Happy Fall Ya'll..Yea I am from deep in the south ;)
I don't know if you know or not but quite a few months ago we were approached by ScrapStreet Ezine about participating in an article. How cool is that? So we did and it is out in this months issue. We chose to use 10 different manufacturers on our layout. So that is the challenge this month. It was harder than one expects but it was very fun.
So pull out your manufacturers and give us what you got.

Here is my page ...I used 10 different papers and then cut out a mask and then started adding white paint, Gesso and chalk mist ...I had alot of fun using scraps on this page ..thanks for looking!!!!

Isn't Kristin's page SO inspiring? Love those strips!

I wish all the details showed up on this bright pastel layout. I was inspired by a Starbucks magazine ad to create this layout. I used a mix of ten products plus rubber stamps and NO patterned paper! So you can mix up a lot of products and skip paper entirely - how's that for variety?

I had so much fun with this layout - using so many different manufacturers turned out to be a breeze! I got to dig around my stash too for all sorts of bibs and bobs. I worked on a layered effect to get everything to fit. So there's a lot of texture and 3D elements. You can't quite see it, but the page curls at the top are used to hang a silver 3D wire star over the clouds. There are closeups on my blog of this.

The photos are of my (nearly 2 year old) daughter driving a Cozy Coupe and munching down party food at a birthday she was at.

So many things were put on tis LO. Things that I had forgotten all about. 10 different manufacturers. Things lost in a drawer. in a basket, Even things tucked away in envelopes. This is one of the most favorite challneges to do. Its basically what you want and where you want to put things.  Anything goes. Isn't that what its all about...So what are you waiting for. Just have fun with what you got!!!

Illy:

I had a lot of fun doing this layout, searching for almost ten supplies from different manufactureres. In my layout I used even old Halloween papers that match with the colors of the photo, an old cheap ribbon and other accents that were closed in a box.

Challenge #57: Christmas with a Twist

Can you feel it? Christmas is almost around the corner (well sort of...), so this month we are challenging you to grab you Christmas supplies and create a project that is NOT christmassy in any way shape or form. Use the colours green, gold and red and see if you can get a project done that does not evoke the feeling of presents. Maybe you have oodled of Xmas embellies but not quite sure how to use them? Be creative - be totally unique and use them on a summer layout, no?

We want to see how "twisted" your imagination cam run riot when faced with Christmas in September!

I pulled different Christmas paper that I had in the colors of green, gold and red and then went to my embellishment drawer full of Christmas stuff and thought I would try and find some trees and stars to add to the page and then found this "wish" from 2002 in my stash ...found a place for it on the page to go with my title .Next, I pulled out my Disney pictures ....and this is how this page came about ....thanks for looking!!!

I absolutely love Christmas and love the fact that I'm using Christmas themed paper on a non-christmas layout!! I used a lot of red and green, because thankfully my photo has lots of this colour in it. I used Christmas patterned paper, bold red cardstock for journalling, a blingy star embellie and I tore apart a christmas wreath (removed the word Christmas and the red bow), then separated the leaves and added them as individual embellies behind the flower. I also used Christmas ribbon.

I pulled out my last year's Christmas stash for this layout. I love Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses paper and while there's plenty of green, the aqua and pink tones make it quite versatile. I brought out those pinks & burgundies by using a pink cardstock base for my page, and tinting my letter stickers with raisin alcohol ink. Using Christmas paper is fun because it's put away most of the year - it's like discovering a new stash just waiting to be enjoyed!

I was intrigued about using the festive colors on a non-holiday layout.It was a great challenge and so much fun.Sadely past that I just couldnt bring myself to add christmas-y decor to the layout,just a tad bit too much for me...haha,but i love the way the colors worked for this layout!


Illy:

In these days my scrapbooking style is "shabby and simple", I use less 3D embellishments and I use a lot of masking tape and inks. For this layout I choose two Christmas patterned papers and a simple green one.
