Challenge #57: Christmas with a Twist

Can you feel it? Christmas is almost around the corner (well sort of...), so this month we are challenging you to grab you Christmas supplies and create a project that is NOT christmassy in any way shape or form. Use the colours green, gold and red and see if you can get a project done that does not evoke the feeling of presents. Maybe you have oodled of Xmas embellies but not quite sure how to use them? Be creative - be totally unique and use them on a summer layout, no?

We want to see how "twisted" your imagination cam run riot when faced with Christmas in September!

I pulled different Christmas paper that I had in the colors of green, gold and red and then went to my embellishment drawer full of Christmas stuff and thought I would try and find some trees and stars to add to the page and then found this "wish" from 2002 in my stash ...found a place for it on the page to go with my title .Next, I pulled out my Disney pictures ....and this is how this page came about ....thanks for looking!!!

I absolutely love Christmas and love the fact that I'm using Christmas themed paper on a non-christmas layout!! I used a lot of red and green, because thankfully my photo has lots of this colour in it. I used Christmas patterned paper, bold red cardstock for journalling, a blingy star embellie and I tore apart a christmas wreath (removed the word Christmas and the red bow), then separated the leaves and added them as individual embellies behind the flower. I also used Christmas ribbon.
Angela:

I pulled out my last year's Christmas stash for this layout. I love Basic Grey's Eskimo Kisses paper and while there's plenty of green, the aqua and pink tones make it quite versatile. I brought out those pinks & burgundies by using a pink cardstock base for my page, and tinting my letter stickers with raisin alcohol ink. Using Christmas paper is fun because it's put away most of the year - it's like discovering a new stash just waiting to be enjoyed!

I was intrigued about using the festive colors on a non-holiday layout.It was a great challenge and so much fun.Sadely past that I just couldnt bring myself to add christmas-y decor to the layout,just a tad bit too much for me...haha,but i love the way the colors worked for this layout!


Illy:

In these days my scrapbooking style is "shabby and simple", I use less 3D embellishments and I use a lot of masking tape and inks. For this layout I choose two Christmas patterned papers and a simple green one.

After having such a hard time picking we decided we couldn't do it so I took matters into my own hands and put your name in a jar and had my 6 year old pull one out....

Challenge #56: Measure me up

How many of you have succumbed to the new(ish) craze that is masking/washi/kawaii/artisan tape yet? You may even have some lying around from when it was just called bookbinding tape, offered by Making Memories and 7Gypsies...

Or you may be clever and just use your low priced, household masking tape and stamp it with your own images, or paint it to suit your project.

We would like to see you stick it all on - go wild with the tape, be inventive: if you don't have any decorative tape around, why not cut up a tape measure and use that? Everything goes and we want to see it.

I am totally hooked on tapes - always have, always will. The humble masking tape appeared first on one of my cards by accident way back in 2004, when I used the tape to actually mask something off :)
Whenever I see some pretty tape, I buy it and I had oodles of fun with four different type of tapes on this layout

Angela:

I love the pretty patterned tapes you can buy - but I don't have any yet! They've been on my wish list, but since Scrap Your Crap is about using what you have, I chose to use hockey tape on this page about my son. Hockey tape is a white, fabric tape that takes ink easily, so I inked it with blue and brown and used it to border the photos at the top and also on the bottom right corner.

Well, that was fortuitous! We are in the middle of moving so all my stuff was packed! No paper, no pictures, nothing. I literally had this one picture sitting out, and luckily I had pre-made this mini album a long time ago. I was able to stick this picture on, dig out my Heidi Swap tape (which I've had forever, but never used) and call it quits!

Oh I can't believe how versatile tape can be!! Firstly I recently bought some florist tape to make some sock roses and would you believe it wouldn't stick! So here I had a roll of $6 and nothing to do with it - bring on our challenge!! I used it as the border here. I simply pleated and sewed it to my layout! I also cut up some actual measuring tape cause the colour looked nice, and I also used some Heidi Swapp tape that has lived in my stash about as long as I've been scrapping and turned it into a flower! I pleated it into a circle and then embellished it up. Tape is so much fun!! By the way, the little critter in my photos is an Australian Brushtail Possum - this little cutie stopped in at work one morning (on pyjama day!) and I got to feed her some apple and banana.

Here is my take on using all these different tapes ...I used some old Heidi Swapp tape that I had and then some new Pink Paislee tape that I just bought ...I just love using this stuff ....on this page I cut my paper 10x10 and then cut little pieces to make a border around my page ...thanks for looking!!!

Illy:

I bought some adhesive measure tape by 7 Gypsies almost two years ago... it's quite intact! This is the perfect occasion to use it, because I bought it for USE IT and not to keep it in a box. The same for the adhesive lace in black and white. I have it since forever! In this layout I used it to add a romantic touch.

Michelle:

I wanted something simple, to the point and I had these measuring tapes around for a long time. Perfect for what I wanted to do. I also love these adhesive circle tapes. Makes my heart smile.

Tara:

Some of my very favorite layout ever have included regular old masking tape,

but this is my first time playing with the beautiful Tim Holtz tissue tapes.

I covered the bottom portion of the envelope with strips of one time and made the pleated floral centre with another.

I was super excited how this layout came together.I just got this awesome tape by pink Paislee in the mail and was waiting for the right layout to use it on,and a week later(without this prompt in mind),I snapped this picture of My daughter,and it just all came together!

Challenge #55: Brought to you by the number 5

This month we have very special guests. We did a Design Team swap with the fabulous girls over at Gutter Girlz.

This challenge is all about the number 5...

We are on challenge number 55 so how fun would it be to use increments of 5.

Ex: 5 different pattern papers, 5 buttons, 5 pictures, 5 misc embellishments...you get the drift....if you use it make sure it is in increments of 5... easy peasy right? This will be a great way to finish off those packages of embellishments that you bought and used a few of them and still have a gazillion left...or better yet..do you save your scraps of pp? Pull those out and use them...just make sure you use 5!

I found this great picture of my mom and niece in the bluebonnets from some years ago ..and made me think of how close they are now and how much she loves those girls ...5 different papers, 5 flowers, 5 brads, 5 label stickers, 5 stamped hearts and a title with 5 letters...thanks for looking ...have fun with this challenge!!!

Hello gang!
I used the number 5 in my title as well as 5 letters for the subtitle. I also used used 5 different tags all over the LO. 5 different dymo label items that best represent my grandpa (jadka) in polish. This is his staple, he has to have these things on him at all times. Like a woman and her purse.

#54 - We have a winner

What a wonderful selection of entries we received this month - we saw a plethora of different techniques, fantastic use of different paints and inks and overall an amazing array of superb projects.

I love these pictures from my first ever winter holiday. My Nan, Aunt and Uncle took me skiing at the tender age of four (bless) and my Uncle taught me that whenever I fell, I should be laughing as:

• a) snow is soft
• b) it is so much cooler to laugh than cry like a baby

Most of the pictures from that holiday show my lying on the floor laughing my head off....so, I guess I fell.A.LOT... tee hee

Having used the wonderful double-sided papers from Norwegian Manufacturer 3ndy, I added for colour: white gesso, walnut ink to define the distressed paper edges and blue cosmic shimmer, which was spritzed all over the background paper.

This whole entire thing was painted on canvass with so many things, I had acrylic on here, some pencil, gesso, some ink. It was very very fun to do and I think I'll adventuring in more things like this. And why not, its just crap that I have in my art box. Bust out the crap ladies!!!

Leslie:

This is one of my favorite photos from a trip to Colorado last year. We found this field with the biggest dandelions I had ever seen. I used three different oil pastels to create a frame around the edges. I love the smeared effect you can get. I had a blast with this challenge, thanks Illy!

Sarah:

I have absolutely loved this challenge - I have only just bought my first set of Copics and couldn't wait to use them! I added some colour to the pink paper flowers you can see, with the buttons in the middle. I feathered the brush tip out from the middle to make the flowers a little more realistic. I also stamped some butterflies in the top left corner and coloured them in with the pens. The photos I used are of my youngest daughter playing on her musical horse outside on a gorgeous Autumn day.

I used a old Heidi Swapp Mask that I found and sprayed my different mist on the right side of the page and then cut it up to also make the flowers on the page and then hand cut a heart out of chipboard and used it also as a mask on the left side of the page ...next I added a little glitter around the edge of the page and to the flowers and added a little journaling around the edge of my page ...had fun playing with all the different color mist!!!!

Angela:

As a professional artist, you would think I would be more comfortable with drawing on a layout, but it's not something I usually do. So I put my doodle cap on and grabbed some markers to make my own patterned paper on kraft card stock. I also reserved the right to cover up the first doodles that didn't go so well - hence the collage effect in the lower left corner!

Tara:

When I learned what this month's challenge was, I decided I would be using Gesso. I didn't know what else I would do, but Gesso for sure. I dribbled big blobs of it onto my background and used a piece of cardboard to swirl it around, leaving some ridges for texture. While the Gesso was still wet, I used a stamp to further texturize the background. Once the Gesso was dry, I spritzed with Shimmerz. I also used Shimmerz on my stamped flower and Glimmer Mist on the Maya Road envelopes. See more detail shots on my blog. This layout uses the June Add-on Kit from Up The Street.

Illy:

For my page I decided to use old watercolors. I painted randomly on a white cardstock, then I "stamped" some circles with white acrylic paint. I built my page using scraps of paper, some journaling tags used as patterned paper (I wrote the journaling on the empty space of the photo) and then I decided to use some of my *newly bought* stuff, because I don't want to stash it anymore, I want to use pretty things in my pages, without the fear of wasting them.

Brianna:

I loved this idea right away,I used my crayons by taking two wax papers,placing strips of crayons I made by sharpening them with a pencil sharpener,and placing the second wax paper atop it,and ironing them down to create this great mosaic looking heart!very fun and easy to do!




Once again, we were joined by a wonderful Guest DT Scrapper who enjoyed getting her elbows deep into the paint/ink pots :)

MELISSA used three different colours of ink for the layout and the chipboard. The colour combination is gorgeous and the use of white space fantastic.
